Turlin Moor bird viewing platform and saltmarsh
Enhancements for people and wildlife
Together with BCP Council and The Bird & Recreation Initiative (BARI), we are working to make enhancements at the Turlin Moor nature reserve, including the bird viewing platform and saltmarsh area, for the benefit of local people as well as the amazing wildlife here.
Turlin Moor looks out onto Lytchett Bay in Poole Harbour, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), which sees incredible wildlife – including birds. From here, you might be lucky enough to see avocet, osprey, or even a white-tailed eagle.
We’re enhancing the bird viewing platform to make it more accessible for everyone, easier to take in the view and enjoy watching the birds. We’re also adding signage so that visitors can learn about the species they might spot.
At the saltmarsh area on the shore, we’re adding waymarkers and a seat, alongside zoning which will help protect birds like the redshank which used to breed at this site but, due to a small amount of disturbance, have unfortunately gone away. These enhancements will allow visitors to relax and enjoy the view, whilst giving birds space to rest, feed, and breed.
