Nature Neighbourhoods

Working with the communities in Kinson and West Howe and supporting them to make a plan for nature.

What is Nature Neighbourhoods?

Nature Neighbourhoods is a UK-wide project in collaboration with the National Trust, WWF and RSPB. The Parks Foundation charity has been chosen to run the project in West Howe and Kinson. The project aims to give communities increased confidence and capacity to tackle climate change at a neighbourhood level.

We are consulting with the local community and giving help and guidance as they make positive changes for wildlife and the environment.

What is happening in Kinson and West Howe?

We offer a monthly programme of free nature-based activities – join us at:

  • Moore Avenue Wildlife Garden

  • The Henry Brown Centre

  • Pelhams Park

A community growing space

Community Garden at the Henry Brown Centre

Over the last year, we have been supporting the Henry Brown Centre to improve their community garden. The garden now contains 5 raised beds for growing vegetables, a fruit and berry border and 4 fruit trees.

We run a regular volunteering session in the community garden on Tuesday mornings, and some of the produce from the garden goes into the lunches prepared by the women’s cooking club on a Tuesday lunchtime.

We are always looking for more people to get involved and to feel the benefits of getting your hands in the soil and connecting with nature.

Supporting residents’ green ideas

A local resident contacted us asking if we could help to plant some trees in their crescent. We are in the process of working with the local community and BCP Council to facilitate the wishes of the residents.

We have done community engagement to make sure that the residents’ wishes are represented, and we have been liaising with the Council to help to make it happen. The plan is to start planting trees in the winter.

If you have your own green idea or project and you’d like our support, please get in touch using the details below.
